Today the so called Arizona Immigration Law SB-1070 was partially put on hold by judge Susan Bolton. The law which entails the provision of controlling undocumented immigration to the state by a series of measures, among them racial and class profiling in order to detect and deport "illegal aliens", was scheduled to take effect today.
The legal process may take months, but this gives President Obama the chance to push immigration reforms into Congress. Hopefully this is no too politically costly for him. With a population feeling too much the effects of the economic crisis, anti-immigrant sentiment is rampant. However, there is the hope that U.S. will acknowledge its immigrant nature as a nation, and act in consequence. Hopefully public opinion turns favorable to an immigration reform.
